For Galați Employers
Galați is an industrial city of well over two hundred thousand people on the left bank of the Danube, where the Siret and the Prut meet it, and it carries three freight assets at once: Romania's biggest integrated steel plant, the country's largest shipyard and the largest port on the Danube. Driver work here reflects that, with heavy inbound raw material and outbound steel alongside long international rotations. Employers publish the vacancy and keep selection in their own hands.
Written by you, published as written • Applications straight back to you • Work permission guidance under a separate agreement
Galați is the heavyweight of this region: an integrated steel producer, the largest Romanian shipyard and the biggest Danube port, all within one city, with a Schengen external frontier on the Prut a short distance east.
Publish the vacancy at www.fastdriver.eu/jobs/romania, naming categoria C+E, categoria C or categoria B, saying whether a current atestat profesional marfă and a valid card tahograf are required from the first day, and marking the work intern or extern.
FastDriver.eu is a job portal and acts as nothing else. It is not a recruitment agency and not an agent de munca temporara, so it does not employ drivers, does not hire them out to a Galați company and takes no share of a hire. The advert is yours and so is the employment contract.
One thing an employer here should check first: river freight is contracting rather than growing, and the county's biggest industrial asset is mid-sale, so base a fleet plan on confirmed contracts. Context sits on the Romania employer page.
Employers in Galați recruit long rotation international drivers, three and a half tonne comunitate drivers, heavy tipper and bulk drivers around the steel works and the quays, refrigerated drivers, and a courier and distribution layer in the city.
The county's dominant advertised role. Categoria C+E on curtainsiders and refrigerated trailers across western Europe, with solo and crewed offers both present and rotations from a few weeks to three months out and one month home. State the rotation, the trailer and whether ADR is wanted.
Light commercial international work is unusually prominent here, with categoria B the most requested category on the local board. Vans of two and a half to three and a half tonnes on international carriage now fall inside the tachograph obligation, so the driver needs a card.
An integrated blast furnace plant takes iron ore and coal in and sends sheet steel out, with the port as the historic transport hub for both. Categoria C+E on tippers, walking floors and flatbeds, intern, short radius, with axle load and load security discipline doing most of the work.
Romania's largest shipyard sits in this city, which generates oversized and project movements alongside ordinary freight. Categoria C+E with flatbed and low loader experience, intern, and escorting or permit work sometimes attached. Describe the load type rather than the destination, since that is what a candidate screens on.
City distribution and platform courier work runs on categoria B and categoria C, intern and home nightly, with food delivery platforms visible in the local listings. Say whether the vehicle is provided, whether pay is weekly or monthly, and whether the role is employed rather than platform work.
Rotation length is the single thing a Galați candidate checks first, because local offers run from a few weeks away to three months out with one month home. An advert that leaves the pattern unstated is read as the longest option on the board, which costs applications.
Galați sits in the far east of the region, on the Danube's left bank at the confluence of the Siret and the Prut, roughly eighty kilometres from the Black Sea and a short run from Brăila. The city holds almost everything a driver would commute to.
The industrial belt and the port quays are inside the municipality, so a driver's commute is urban rather than regional. That concentrates the labour market and makes depot location a smaller factor here than in the thinner counties around it.
Eastwards the Prut is a Schengen external frontier with the Republic of Moldova, where full checks apply in both directions. The county is confirmed as holding a border checkpoint, but no crossing point could be named, so routing has to be confirmed rather than assumed.
Southwards the bridge over the maritime Danube, reached through Brăila county, is now the only crossing available to a laden vehicle, which makes a run into Dobrogea and towards the coast a planned leg rather than an improvised one.
Rail is genuinely useful here: direct services run year round to Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Brașov and Iași, with seasonal trains to the coast, so candidates from outside the county can reach the city without a car.
Driver work differs sharply between the capital ring, the Black Sea port, the western gateway counties and the eastern border. Open another county to see the hiring information that applies there.
Romanian drivers search in Romanian. An advert written only in English will miss most of the domestic market.
Sofer profesionist is the dominant advert title. Sofer TIR signals international work and is read that way immediately. Sofer camion and sofer de distributie name the vehicle and the job. Conducator auto is the formal register that appears in documents and regulations rather than in adverts.
Intern or extern is the first thing a Romanian driver looks for, because it decides whether they are home each night or away for weeks. Put it in the headline. An advert that leaves it out collects applications from people who withdraw once they find out.
Pe comunitate is the phrase that signals the well paid international segment. It is worth using where it is true, and worth avoiding where it is not, because drivers treat it as a promise about earnings.
Write the licence as C+E. That form appears far more often in real adverts than CE, by a wide margin, and writing it the other way marks an advert as drafted by someone outside the trade.
The qualification is the atestat profesional, for marfa or for persoane. Adverts list it alongside the card tahograf and ADR where the load requires it. Name only what the role genuinely needs.
Pay needs two numbers, not one. Salary and diurna are quoted separately in Romanian adverts, and for international work the daily allowance is a very large part of what a driver actually takes home. An advert that gives only the salary reads as badly paid even when it is not.
Romanian drivers read an advert for the route, the vehicle, the time away and the two pay figures. An advert that answers those four things gets better applications than one that lists benefits.
Extern work sets the vocabulary in Galați. Four of the five employers named on the local board run international work, so comunitate, pe comunitate and tur-retur are the words a candidate scans for, and anything unlabelled is assumed to be international. If your vacancy is domestic, intern or transport național has to appear in the title or it will be skipped. Two further local habits are worth copying. Rotation is advertised in weeks or months rather than described loosely, so write it as a pattern. And because light commercial international work is so visible here, state the vehicle weight class explicitly: a categoria B comunitate role and a categoria C+E comunitate role are different jobs that the same word otherwise covers.
FastDriver.eu operates as a European driver job portal and allows candidates elsewhere in Europe and in eligible international markets to find and apply for suitable Romanian vacancies.
Start by ignoring most of what is published about this, because the system changed. The separate work permit that employers used to apply for has been abolished and replaced by a single application filed on a state platform. The old route was switched off months before the new platform opened, so guidance written before the change is not just dated, it describes a procedure that no longer exists.
Drivers sit on the shortage occupations list, which is the gate for the main employment route. For a haulier that is genuinely good news and it is the part of the system working in your favour.
The real barrier is not the paperwork. Filing directly requires a trading history, an average headcount above a published threshold and a financial guarantee for each worker. Most Romanian hauliers sit below that headcount, which means they cannot file at all and must go through a licensed placement agency instead. Check which side of that line your company falls on before you plan anything else, because it changes the whole approach.
The annual quota is a single national figure rather than a transport allocation, and it was cut rather than raised. A large share of it is consumed well before the year ends, so an application late in the cycle competes for what is left.
Employers in Galați may receive applications from drivers based in Romania, elsewhere in the EU and EEA, Switzerland, the wider European region, Asia, Africa, Gulf countries, North America, Latin America and other eligible international markets.
EU, EEA and Swiss citizens may work in Romania without an authorisation. A Moldovan national holding Romanian citizenship is an EU citizen and needs nothing, while one without it faces full external border checks, because the Romanian border with Moldova is now a Schengen external frontier. The difference is large and it is worth establishing early in a conversation rather than late.
The employment contract has to reach the national register before the driver starts work, not afterwards. The register changed name and platform recently, and the penalties for undeclared work are severe with a high ceiling, so this is not a formality to leave until the first week.
A candidate's ability to work here depends on nationality, residence status, professional qualifications, driving licence validity and the requirements of the individual position. Nationality alone never settles it. Drivers can check their own position through our driving licence eligibility guidance.
FastDriver.eu can provide process guidance and document coordination when a candidate needs support. It does not make government decisions and cannot promise an approval.
Name the licence category in the advert. A Romanian driver reads it first, and C+E in the headline tells them immediately whether the job is theirs.
Freight work uses C and C+E, with C1 and C1E for lighter rigid vehicles. Passenger transport uses D and D1.
Age limits matter when you are planning a pipeline. C1 and C1E open at eighteen, C and C+E at twenty one and reduce to eighteen for a driver holding the professional qualification. D and DE open at twenty four and reduce to twenty one on the same basis. Heavy categories run five years.
Romania asks for something most member states do not. A professional driver needs an annual medical check and an annual psychological check, and the psychological opinion is also part of the file for exchanging a foreign licence. Employers arriving from elsewhere in the EU are regularly caught out by it.
The atestat profesional is issued by the national road authority, separately for goods and for passengers, and renewed every five years. A shorter conversion route exists for a driver moving between the two, so an experienced goods driver is not starting again to work on passenger transport.
Foreign licences need checking before you make an offer. EU and EEA licences exchange without a test. Beyond that it depends on whether the issuing country appears on the convention or reciprocity lists, and where it does not the driver sits the Romanian theory and practical examination, which they may now do without compulsory driving school.
Several of the countries Romanian hauliers recruit from most heavily could not be found on those exchange lists. That is not a conclusion that they are absent, but it does mean the question has to be settled for the specific country before a contract is signed, not assumed.
A professional qualification obtained outside the EU or EEA is not recognised here. An experienced driver arriving from outside Europe takes the Romanian qualification whatever they held before.
This is where the real timeline lives, and it is longer than most employers expect. The driver attestation that a Romanian operator needs in order to put a third country national on international work requires a Romanian licence and the professional qualification. A newly arrived driver has neither. The tachograph card also requires the work authorisation first. So the sequence is admission, then licence, then qualification, then attestation, and an employer who budgets only for the visa will be short by months.
One thing works in your favour. The professional examinations have been made available in English, which was done specifically to serve drivers recruited from South and South East Asia, so the qualification stage no longer requires Romanian first.
Unlike several other member states, the forklift authorisation in Romania is a genuine state authorisation issued to the individual rather than a permission the employer grants. ADR is required where the load needs it. Verifying the original documents remains the employer's responsibility.
Galați now has one route across the maritime Danube for a laden vehicle and no local alternative to it. The ferry that ran between the city and the Tulcea bank was cut back to vehicles of three and a half tonnes and under, with capacity reduced from more than thirty vehicles to a handful of cars and operating hours shortened, the operator citing heavy losses since the bridge opened and took its traffic. Lorries are therefore excluded, and the bridge through Brăila county is the only freight crossing, so a closure has no river workaround. Separately, the county's eastern frontier on the Prut is a Schengen external border with full checks in both directions, unlike the internal frontier Constanța enjoys to the south, and no crossing point, weight limit or waiting time could be verified for it. Confirm both the crossing and the ferry position before a vehicle is committed.

Employers in Galați can use FastDriver.eu to find drivers, advertise genuine vacancies and receive applications through a specialised European driver job portal.
The employer starts by submitting company details, work location, driver category, required licence, number of vacancies, experience level, working schedule, pay information and proposed start date.
The vacancy can then be prepared and promoted to relevant drivers through the platform, alongside the current driver vacancies already open.
Candidates apply for suitable positions. The employer reviews their information, conducts interviews and makes the final hiring decision.
FastDriver.eu does not become the employer. It does not replace the company's legal responsibility for candidate verification, employment contracts, remuneration or working conditions.
Employers that can consider international drivers should clearly state whether work authorisation guidance, visa process support, accommodation or relocation assistance is available.
This information must reflect the employer's actual offer. It must not be added only for search visibility.
Tell us how many drivers you need, the base or town they work from, the licence category, experience, routes, language requirements and proposed employment conditions.
Our team reviews your company details and checks that the vacancy contains what a Romanian driver needs in order to apply with confidence, including the category, whether the work is intern or extern, the atestat position, and salary and diurna stated separately.
The vacancy is prepared, published and promoted according to the selected employer option.
Drivers apply through the platform. The employer reviews applications, communicates with suitable candidates and arranges interviews.
The employer makes the final hiring decision, verifies the candidate and signs the employment contract directly with the selected driver.

Three assets inside one city. Romania’s biggest integrated steel producer, the country’s largest shipyard (owned by a Dutch group), and the largest port on the Danube. The steel plant runs blast furnaces rather than electric arc furnaces, taking in iron ore and coal and producing steel suited to sheet metal, with a heavy inbound and outbound road profile quite unlike the nearby agricultural county.
It is in an active sale process. Several bidders registered for a second-round auction after the starting price was reduced substantially and the timetable extended. The plant is described as one ofRomania’ss largest industrial assets. Nothing available states whether, or at what level, it is currently producing, so an employer planning steel-related haulage should verify theplant’ss operating status directly rather than assume either way.
It is contracting, and an employer should hear that plainly. The maritime Danube ports have lost roughly two-thirds of their combined traffic over recent years, and Galați alone is down by about seven-tenths over that period, from well over six million tonnes to under two. It remains the largest Danube port, but a fleet plan built on river volumes recovering is not supported by the figures.
Not any longer. After the bridge opened and drew away its traffic, the ferry to the Tulcea bank was cut back to vehicles of three and a half tonnes and under, with its capacity reduced to a handful of cars and its hours shortened for freight that leaves the bridge as the only crossing of the maritime Danube, with no local alternative if it is blocked.
The Prut frontier with the Republic of Moldova is a Schengen external border, so full checks apply in both directions, unlike the internal frontier further south in this region. The county has a border checkpoint toward Moldova, but no crossing point, weight limit, or lorry waiting time could be verified, so confirm routing with the border police.
Longer than in most of Romania, and they are advertised explicitly. Local offers include three months out with one month home, and others let the driver choose availability blocks of four to twelve weeks. Because candidates compare those patterns directly, a vacancy that states the rotation up front competes better than one offering a higher figure with the time away left vague.
Because a visible slice of local international work runs on vans rather than lorries, Categoria B was the most frequently requested category on thecounty’ss board, covering both community transport in light commercials and city courier work. One compliance consequence: vans of two and a half to three and a half tonnes on international carriage now fall under the tachograph obligation, so the driver needs a card.
It is the highest average in this region, though still below the national figure, and it has been rising at a reasonable clip. No county unemployment rate is published for Galați, so the useful read is the advert board rather than a jobless figure: a large listing dominated by euro-paying international operators means a domestic role has to compete on home time rather than on money alone.
It carries the vacancy you write and routes applications back to you: no database, no shortlist, no introduction fee, and no involvement in your selection. If a driver you want to employ needs permission to work in Romania, we offer process guidance and document coordination under a separate agreement that covers the paperwork and makes no promise about any decision.
It is not, and it is not a recruitment agency. In Romania, that line matters because licensed placement agencies are a regulated route into third-country hiring, and employers test the claim. FastDriver.eu does not employ drivers, does not supply them to a Galați operator and never becomes a party to the employment. You publish, you interview, you hire, and the contract runs directly to the driver.
With salary and diurnă as separate lines, the diurnă appears as a daily allowance for days spent abroad. Romanian international drivers read that allowance first because it makes up a large share of take-home pay, and against a board full of euro-quoted offers, a single monthly salary looks like domestic work. Give the structure even when no figure appears.
The aviz de angajare was abolished outright, and a single application on a state platform now replaces it. The old route shut down months before the replacement opened, leaving a period with no working way in, so guidance that still refers to an aviz describes a repealed system.Employers in Galațishould set aside anything they read elsewhere about that document and confirm current timing.
That depends on one threshold. Filing directly requires a minimum trading history, an average headcount above a published figure, and a financial guarantee for each worker, and most Romanian hauliers fall below the headcount, leaving a licensed placement agency as the only route. Establish where your company stands before committing to a start date, because the two routes have different costs and timings.
Driving occupationo appear on the shortage list, and that listing is thgateway toor the main employment route, so t igenuinelyne good news for a haulier here. It confers no reserved places, though. The annual quota is one national figure rather than a sectoral split;; it was reduced, not increased, and much of it is taken early, so intake timing matters.
Months rather than weeks, because immigration clearance is only the first gate. The attestation a Romanian operator needs for a third-country driver requires a Romanian driving licence and professional qualification, and the tachograph card requires work authorisation first. The order is admission, licence, qualification, attestation, and a budget covering only the visa will fall well short.
An EU or EEA licence exchanges with no test at all. Beyond that,, it depends on whether the issuing state is listed in the convention or reciprocity annexes, and several countries Romanian operators recruit from heavily are not on the readable lists. Where a state is absen,t the driver takes the Romanian theory and practical examination, no longer with compulsory driving school, so confirm the country before offering.
Long rotation comunitate work, light commercial international runs, steel and bulk tipper work or city distribution: name the category, the atestat, the rotation and whether the job is intern or extern, and let Galați drivers apply to you.
Employers in Galați recruit, select and employ their drivers themselves; FastDriver.eu only publishes the vacancy.
