Bragança is an exporting district with a low wage population, which is a different thing from a poor one. Meat, timber, fruit, aluminium and stone each take a share of the basket, and an exhaust systems plant supplies seven foreign vehicle marques.
Keep the advert concrete, because there is no local listing for a candidate to read alongside it. Motorista de pesados, the category as C or C+E, the run named as national, Portugal and Spain, or international, and the CAM position stated outright. Schedule discipline rather than spot freight, and that reading is inference.
Bragança and Vinhais together produce four fifths of the Portuguese chestnut crop, and Sortegel alone handles about ten thousand tonnes a year with packing capacity raised sharply. Motorista de pesados on C or C+E, national and international. The autumn peak is a reading, not a sourced figure.

No advert from this district has ever stated a wage, a category or a scope across three research passes, and no agency presence was found either. Your advert therefore sets the local reference point instead of competing with one. Be exact about the vehicle and the run, and do not imply a hinterland of warehouse and yard jobs that does not exist here.
This is the largest district in the north by area and the emptiest by far, at under twenty residents to the square kilometre, roughly a fortieth of Porto district's. The capital's aerodrome sits at six hundred and forty-nine metres above sea level, so the city itself is upland, and a driver here measures a commute between towns that are a long way apart.
Mós and Cantarias, both in Bragança city, are the district's named industrial zones, with Cantarias flagged for expansion and the council stating an ambition to build an automotive cluster around them. Progress since that statement was not established.
Mirandela and Macedo de Cavaleiros are the other centres named repeatedly in the sources, and both carry registered road freight firms. Vila Flor, Mogadouro and Torre de Moncorvo do too, so the haulage sector here is spread rather than concentrated in the capital.
Four authorised crossings into Spain sit in this district, more than in any other in the north: Quintanilha on the international bridge, Vinhais linking to the Spanish OU 311, Miranda do Douro on the EN 218, and Rio de Onor on the EN 308.
Torre de Moncorvo lost more than a fifth of its people between the two most recent censuses, the worst of the district's twelve municipalities. Pocinho, on the Linha do Douro, is the practical railhead for that end, and reaching it is a road leg.

Portuguese drivers search in Portuguese. An advert written only in English will miss most of the domestic market.
Motorista de pesados is the dominant advert title, with motorista de ligeiros second. Pesados and ligeiros, heavy and light, is the first thing a Portuguese advert settles, and a driver reads it before anything else.
Write the licence as C+E. That form appears more often in real adverts than CE.
Two terms that work elsewhere do not work here. Motorista TIR appeared in no advert found, unlike in Romania where it is standard, so an advert using it reads as written from outside the market. Servico iberico was not found either, so describe Portugal and Spain work in plain words rather than reaching for the label. Internacional is the word that signals work beyond the peninsula.
The qualification is the CAM. Adverts list it alongside the cartao de tacografo and ADR where the load needs it. Name only what the role genuinely requires.
Pay needs more than one figure. Portuguese adverts quote a base salary with ajudas de custo, and the TIR premium stated separately where it applies. An advert giving only the base reads as badly paid even when the total is competitive.
Condutor is the formal word that appears in regulations and on documents. Motorista is what the job is called. Use motorista in the advert and keep condutor for the paperwork.
The sector agreement recognises three geographic scopes, nacional, ibérico and internacional, with the Iberian middle tier drawing the same monthly TIR allowance as full international work. The word ibérico, though, appeared in no live Portuguese driver advert tested and in no source fetched for this district, so it is agreement vocabulary rather than search vocabulary. What the local register does show is four firms trading under Transportes Internacionais or Nacionais in the registered name. Write Portugal and Spain routes in the advert and keep ibérico for the pay conversation.

Portugal is more open than most of Europe on this, and it is worth saying plainly because employers rarely believe it. There is no labour market test and no quota for a work visa. You are not required to demonstrate that no Portuguese or EU candidate was available.
What has changed is the way in. The route that allowed someone to enter and regularise afterwards has been abolished, and a great deal of guidance still online describes it. Acting on that guidance would cost months. The visa now has to be obtained before travel.
The same applies to the Portuguese speaking countries route, which was known for allowing entry first and paperwork later. It now requires a residence visa obtained in the country of origin. For Brazilian recruitment in particular, that is the single biggest practical change in recent years.
One planning point is worth more than the rest put together. The residence visa itself authorises work for an initial period, so the start date is not tied to the processing queue for the residence card. Employers who think the driver cannot begin until the card arrives have the sequence wrong and lose weeks to it.
The job seeker visa does not help here. It was restricted to highly qualified work and a driving role does not come within it.

Freight work uses C and C+E, with C1 and C1E for lighter rigid vehicles. Passenger transport uses D and D1.
Ages depend on which qualification route the driver took, which is unusual and worth understanding. C and CE open at twenty one, or at eighteen for a driver holding the full professional qualification. D and DE open at twenty four, or at twenty one on the same basis. The shorter accelerated route does not buy the same reduction, so two drivers of the same age can hold different entitlements.
Every heavy renewal needs a medical assessment and a psychological one. Both, not one.
There is an age limit that catches fleets out. At sixty seven a CE entitlement drops to a much lower weight, and the passenger categories end and cannot be renewed. Worth knowing before a rota is built around one driver.
Foreign licence exchange splits three ways, and the middle tier is where offers die. Drivers from the Portuguese speaking countries and from OECD states exchange every category with no driving examination, with a psychological assessment for the heavy ones. Drivers from other convention countries exchange only the light categories directly and must sit Portuguese theory and practical tests for anything heavy. Drivers from countries outside the conventions cannot drive on the licence at all.
Brazil is the one to get right, because of the volume. The recognition arrangement covers car and motorcycle categories only, so a Brazilian driver cannot work heavy on the Brazilian licence. They can exchange into a Portuguese heavy licence without an examination, which is a good position, but the exchange is not optional and it has to happen before they drive for you.
Then there is the ninety day trap. A driver has ninety days from establishing residence to lodge the exchange while still driving. After that they may lodge for up to two years, but they may not drive in the meantime. Past two years a practical test becomes compulsory. Employers plan around the two year figure and miss the ninety day one, and the driver sits idle while the file moves.
A professional qualification obtained outside the EU or EEA is not recognised. The real sequence is exchange the licence, then take the accelerated initial qualification, then pass the aptitude examination. Budget for all three rather than for the visa alone.
Portugal has no state forklift licence. The permission rests on certified training plus the employer's own written authorisation. The driver attestation needed for a third country national is issued by the IMT and requires a declaration from the labour authority that the driver is lawfully employed. Verifying the original documents remains the employer's responsibility.
Three operational points here are settled enough to act on. The district has a local IMT counter, on Avenida Doutor Francisco Sá Carneiro in the capital, weekdays only from nine in the morning until four in the afternoon and closed on the twenty-second of August for the municipal holiday; whether driving examinations or CAM certification happen there is stated nowhere published, so verify it before offering a candidate a local test. The whole hundred and thirty-two kilometre Transmontana spine to the Spanish border came off the toll list, having been partly tolled before, so a cost model built earlier overstates what serving this district takes and a haulage quote resting on it is too high. And no motorway runs north to south here: the A24 stops at Chaves, inside Vila Real district, so movement off the east to west axis uses the IC5 and the EN network and should be timed accordingly.

It is, and it is formal nnotmerely disused. The line that served this district was deactivated in sections; its last commercial stretch was halted after accidents that caused four deaths, and the Council of Ministers removed it from the national rail network by a resolution published in the official gazette. What survives is a tourist operation on part of the alignment, funded as a mobility project alongside a hydroelectric dam.
It is a low-wage one, which is not the same thing, and the trade figures make the distinction. This district runs a trade surplus while both its interior neighbours run deficits, and its exports are around six times the Douro sub-region’s and nine times Alto Tâmega’s. The basket is spread across meat, timber, fruit, aluminium and stone, with no single category reaching a fifth.
It sets the ceiling lower than you would expect. Faurecia runs two plants in the capital making exhaust systems, and it is the district’s largest and most profitable industrial employer. Yet its own workers struck over average wages at or just below the district average for all occupations. So the biggest employer here is not the wage leader. An offer pitched modestly above that average already competes with it.
Two, both in the capital: the Mós and Cantarias zones, with Cantarias flagged for expansion and the municipality stating an intention to build an automotive cluster. That makes this district better evidenced on named industrial land than Vila Real, which produced none across two passes. The caveat is age: the cluster ambition comes from an older source, and what has happened since is not established.
More than anywhere else in the northern interior, and the number comes from the company register rather than from adverts. A hundred and thirty-four entities are registered under the road freight activity code in this district, thirty-three of them in the capital alone, with named firms in Mirandela, Macedo de Cavaleiros, Vila Flor, Mogadouro and Torre de Moncorvo. Read that as registrations, not as operators with vehicles working: at least one listed entry is in liquidation.
Quintanilha, and the others are not substitutes. Four authorised crossings sit in this district, more than in any other northern one, but only Quintanilha was continuously open, on the international bridge with the E82 beyond it. Vinhais and Miranda do Douro ran on weekday split shifts under that regime, and Rio de Onor was open four hours a week. Schengen removes the checks; it does not widen a village road.
East of Vila Real, the A4 and IP4 designations describe one corridor, built to motorway standard, running about 220 km from Porto to the border, so A4 and IP4 together is the correct description here. The grade at the bridge itself was not established. One warning comes with that: the same pairing is wrong for the Marão, where the IP4 is the old mountainroad, and the A4 is the tunnel that replaced it.
Across three research passes, not one was found, and that has become a property of the district rather than the search. This district carries no entry of any kind in the national heavy driver directory, not for the capital, not for Mirandela or Macedo de Cavaleiros, and not even at district level, which Vila Real and Viseu both manage. No agency presence was evidenced either. Hiring here happens by direct approach, and that last point is inference.
Expect it, and label that as expectation rather than observed practice, because no advert exists to confirm it. The structure shows a continuously open crossing reached by a toll-free motorway corridor, a manufacturer shipping to seven foreign vehicle marques, four local firms registered with Internacionais in the company name, and a cluster of operators carrying Spanish place names. That is a reason to anticipate cross-border work, not evidence that drivers here are searching for it.
It is the most forceful figure in the whole northern set. The district held just over 184,000 residents four decades ago and a little under 123,000 at the most recent census, a loss of about a third, with all twelve municipalities declining. It is still falling at around 0.8 per cent a year, and roughly one in three residents is past retirement age.
It is the same fact seen twice, and reading it as tightness leads to a bad plan. Benefit recipiency here is counted against resident population rather than as an unemployment rate, and this district combines the lowest recipiency in the north with its worst depopulation. Few people claim because few working-age people remain. Against that, about forty-one per cent of those who emigrate come back, which is a channel worth working.
None was found, and the search for it was deliberate. We could not identify a logistics park, distribution centre, or third-party logistics operator anywhere in this district. An employer here is hiring into manufacturing and agri-processing flows rather than a distribution hub, so a candidate with multi-drop or yard shunting experience will likely come from outside the district or from another industry entirely.
Only as a measure of how far away this district is. The aerodrome is municipally managed, has an asphalt runway, and its scheduled service launched as a subsidised public link flown on eighteen-seat aircraft, with winter operations requiring overnight stays because one aerodrome on the route was the only one able to operate after sunset. Air freight does not feature. Do not list it as cargo infrastructure in an advert.
Leave that one out. Motorista TIR appeared in no live Portuguese advert title tested, unlike in some other markets, and it survives mainly in pay and collective agreement language. The dominant advert title by a wide margin is motorista de pesados, with motorista de distribuição and motorista de ligeiros trailing behind. Condutor dominates the legislation,,nd motorista dominates the adverts, whe reverse of what a legal translation produces.
Only a training body licensed by IMT, with each course homologated individually, can deliver the course, and IMT publishes a searchable register of them. IMT runs the access examination at the end. The national haulage employers’ association is a provider in its own right. No recognised training body in this district was confirmed across three research passes, so assume travel and build it into the start date.
That licence is not valid for driving in Portugal at all, not even briefly, and no direct exchange is available. The holder must pass a multimedia theory test and a practical driving test for each category held, apply on their own rather than through a school, and pay the exchange fee plus an additional fee for each test. Establish the country group before you make an offer, not after.
Road is the only mode this district has, the pay floor is low and the pool is small. An advert pitched a little above the local average, with the base town and the run both stated, will be read.
The employer that advertises is the employer that interviews, chooses and contracts.
